April 14, 6:30–8 p.m. |

Only two sessions left in the 2025-26 Speaker Series. April features Alix Kyrie, Gallery Director for Rehfelds, and Mel Cotton, Owner of Rose and Eugene Presents.

We will be discussing an artist’s relationship with a gallery.
• How to approach a gallery
• What a gallery looks for in an artist and their work
• What to expect from a gallery

ABOUT ALIX:
With over 20 years of experience in downtown retail & gallery management experience, Alix Kyrie currently serves as gallery director of Rehfelds Modern. Along with her role at Rehfelds Modern, Alix strives to uplift the arts community through advocacy & volunteer work.

ABOUT MEL:
Before dedicating her efforts to Rose and Eugene Presents, Mel Cotton played a pivotal, nearly decade-long role in managing, marketing, and purchasing for a distinguished American craft gallery, collaborating with high-craft artisans from the United States, Canada, and Europe. With a background in studio arts and an emphasis in printmaking, Mel’s academic journey at SDSU laid the foundation for her passion for the arts. Beyond her professional pursuits, Mel enjoys relaxed moments at home, snuggling with her husband and furry companions, and cultivating a domestic jungle.

Judith Peterson is a visual artist working in ink, photography, monoprint, and the transformative art of origami. Drawn to the direct, hand‑to‑paper act of folding, she explores simplicity and transformation through this intimate medium. Peterson began folding origami in medical school and now continues this longstanding practice as a certified instructor with the Nippon Origami Association, while also practicing medicine and teaching at the Sanford School of Medicine. The exhibit features a wide variety of paintings, photographs, and selected origami.

A reception for Peterson’s work will be held on Wednesday, April 22, in the Mary Nettleman, M.D. Classroom at the Wegner Library, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with an artist talk and panel discussion with Peterson to follow. We invite anyone interested in the ideas of kindness and medicine as a provider, a patient, a caregiver, or whatever context you bring to the topic.
