There has been a significant rise in mental health and substance use disorders among workers across the country. To address this issue, Mental Health First Aid provides training to managers, leaders and organizations on how to recognize early signs of these problems, which can impact employee job performance, as well as their overall health and well-being.

Key Learning Objectives:

Understanding Mental Health (Remembering):

Participants will gain foundational knowledge of mental health, recognizing common mental health challenges and understanding the prevalence of mental health issues in society.
Recognizing Signs and Symptoms (Understanding):

Building on foundational knowledge, participants will understand the signs and symptoms of various mental health conditions, allowing them to identify when someone may be in need of assistance.
Applying the ALGEE Action Plan (Application):

Participants will apply the ALGEE action plan (Assess, Listen, Give reassurance and information, Encourage professional help, Encourage self-help and other support strategies) to hypothetical scenarios, demonstrating their ability to use this structured approach in real-life situations.
Engaging in Active Listening (Application):

Active listening skills will be emphasized, providing participants with practical opportunities to engage in empathetic and supportive communication.
Understanding Crisis Intervention (Understanding):

Participants will understand crisis intervention techniques, recognizing when immediate action is required to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in crisis.
Promoting Mental Health Literacy (Analysis):

Mental health literacy will be analyzed, encouraging participants to critically assess societal perceptions and misconceptions surrounding mental health.
Utilizing Resources and Support (Application):

Participants will apply their knowledge of available mental health resources and support systems, ensuring they can connect individuals in need with appropriate assistance.
Stigma Reduction Strategies (Synthesis):

Strategies for reducing mental health stigma will be synthesized, empowering participants to contribute to fostering a more supportive and understanding community.

Practical Scenarios and Role-Playing Exercises: The class will feature practical scenarios and role-playing exercises, allowing participants to apply their knowledge and skills in simulated real-life situations. This hands-on approach enhances understanding and proficiency in providing mental health first aid.

Adult Mental Health First Aid consists of 2-hours of online self-paced content followed by 6 hours of instructor-led training.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be certified in Mental Health First Aid.
